The "Brian Lehrer Show" hosted a gathering of hundreds of New Yorkers Sunday to celebrate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and to discuss whether education is a civil right.

John A. Stokes, an original plaintiff in the Brown v. Board of Education case, was there. He told the audience the point of his student-led strike was not for integration; it was for equality.

The Newark schools superintendent, Cami Anderson, said unequal access to quality education means, among other things, the nation is missing out on generations of amazing leaders.
